Shhhh - The Silent Auction and Bake sale is back! Corn Roast Weekend! August 26,2023
Once again, the Cottagers' Association's very popular silent auction is back! This popular event has been an ongoing tradition for many years and the proceeds from donated items have gone to support many of your community larger initiatives as determined by you, its members. If you would like to contribute items please get in contact with one of your association members and items can be dropped off at the Marina throughout the summer. As always, the more items we have the better.
HLSMR 2023 Photo Contest and Calendar
Due to the overwhelming success of last year’s photo contest, we are pleased to be continuing with this in 2023. Your nonfiction stories on cottaging!
At the 2022 cottage association meeting this month, discussion came around to the fascinating stories of cottage life and the old stories.
To tempt you to write here are some history ideas that you might not know, but will want to read about:
How guests first came to the area by the CNR train
When and how logging was done in the area
How did Harris Lake get its name?
A who dunit mystery of murder in 1953?
Fires in 1989?
Bear, fish, nature stories
For your story it is great to include your cottage number if talking about when cottage was built, family history, full names, dates of event and other details.
A good story has character, setting, theme, plot, and conflict.
Put on your storytelling hat and tell us how you came to the area. If you have old stories from past association newsletters, or other resources please provide citation on who and where it came from. If you have resources that can be shared and then returned, please get in touch.
Not all stories will be included. Please make sure they are short and include as many details as possible.
Send stories to info@hlsmr.org
, or FB Messenger
